PROCEDURE FOR PURCHASING BUSINESS
LICENSES
Licenses to be purchased by a REALTOR® whose
office is located within Jefferson
County:
- Municipal License (for the city in which your office is located; where
your real estate license is held; cost varies from city to city).
- Jefferson County Business License ($26).
- Jefferson Countywide Municipal License ($22) if you want to buy,
sell, show, list, or advertise property within Jefferson County but outside
the city limits of the city where your office is located [in lieu of
purchasing multiple city licenses].
- Shelby Countywide Municipal License Fee ($29) if you want to buy, sell,
show, list, or advertise property within Shelby County [in lieu of purchasing
multiple city licenses].
- Also, you must pay the Jefferson County Occupation Tax (not
license), as per the instructions included with the coupon book; call the
Jefferson County Revenue Office at 325-5180 if you have questions.

multiple city licenses].
- Jefferson Countywide Municipal License ($22) if you want to buy, sell,
show, list, or advertise property within Jefferson County [in lieu of
purchasing multiple city licenses].
» If you are not sure that you have paid your licenses, contact the
Jefferson County Revenue Department (325-5180); Shelby County Revenue Department
(669-3740; 664-3475); your local City Clerk at your local City Hall.
»Purchase of a Countywide Municipal License will relieve real estate
corporations from paying license fees based on Gross Receipts in other
municipalities.
